In My Mailbox (8)

Sorry that it’s sideways, for some reason my computer won’t let me rotate it.

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren

Note: Since last week I have gotten 7 (as of 7/29/11) new followers. Thank you guys, 13 till my 50 follower give away!

On Saturday the 23rd I won an ARC copy of The Duff by Kody Keplinger from my local library by doing a summer reading drawing. So, thank you to my library. I actually got this last week but I was afraid I wouldn’t have much to post this week so I decided to post it this week. It seems to  be about a girl who falls in love with the boy she has always hated. It looks pretty good. I have no idea when I’ll get to it because I had such a big week last week (big for me anyway) and I have quiet a few books to get to.

On Monday I bought a copy of Forever by Maggie Stiefvater at her books signing and got all three of my books signed along with some swag. I reviewed all three of the Mercy Falls books, if you would like to read them look over to the left of the screen and find blog archives. If you are reading this in July they should already be pulled up, if you are reading this anytime later you’ll have to open the July 2011 tab.

What I got at the Maggie Stiefvater signing: Copy of Forever, two postcards, Forever Maggie Key chain and This is Teen flash drive.
My copy of Linger: signed

My copy of Forever: Signed

My copy of Shiver: Signed

And on Friday I received an RAK from Carrie at Stalking the Bookshelves. It was Iron King by Julie Kagawa. Thank you Carrie, I’ve really been wanting to read this book!

I have a question for those who have read the Iron Fey series:
Do you have to read Winter’s Passage and Summer’s Crossing for the series for make sense? If not, should I read them?

Remember that I am holding a Giveaway!

Review: Forever

Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

Teaser from Barnes and Noble

In Maggie Stiefvater’s SHIVER, Grace and Sam found each other. In LINGER, they fought to be together. Now, in FOREVER, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.

First Reaction:

I bought my copy of Forever at a Maggie Stiefvater signing, which I have to say made the book a little less exciting when I acctully began to read it because I already had an idea of some of the events that were going to take place in the book. I had high hopes that this book would make up for the fact that I gave Linger three and a half stars after giving five to shiver, and I’m not fully satisfied.

Possible spoilers for those who have not read Shiver and Linger

Grace: Grace is now a girl who turns wolf in the cold and human in the summer after getting bitten by Cold at the end of Linger because she was about to die from a failed “cure”. She is in love with Sam and wants nothing more than to spend the rest of her life with him, but wolf hunting and the fact that she is a wolf is making that harder and harder.

Sam: Sam used to be a wolf until he got a cure that kept him human. He is in love with Grace and also wants to be with her Forever.

Cole: Cole used to be part of a popular band but now becomes a wolf in the winter and human in the summer. As a kid he was the son of a Scientist and began to follow in his fathers footsteps until he chose the band over science and is trying to figure out how the wolf body works to cure the pack.

Isabel: A friend of Grace, Sam, and Cole who knows about the wolves after her brother became one than died trying to cure himself.

Like all of the books, there was nothing wrong with the writing or details, my big problem was the ending. Once I reread the last line a bunch of times trying to figure out what had happened all I can think is “Really Maggie?” The book has no solid ending leaving you wonder what happened to the characters and if I hadn’t known this was the last book I would have thought there was another it was so vague.

Liked it… but not great.

Maggie Stiefvater Book Signing Pictures!

Me with Maggie and Tessa

Today I was very lucky to have a chance to go to the Maggie Stiefvater book signing and buy Forever and have her sign all three of my books. She was very fun and enthusiastic, not to mention hilarious. This event completely changed my view of Maggie and I didn’t regret it a bit. I will be sharing her signatures and the swag I received at the review on Sunday in my next In My Mailbox.

Oh! And today was my 2 month blog-a-vercery!
The signing table before the authors, the two cats where having fun getting the table ready!

Review: Crave

Crave by Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz

Teaser from Goodreads
Shay could never do the things her friends could–never try out for sports, never go to parties, never fall in love. Because of the mysterious and incurable blood disorder she was born with, she can barely make it through three days of school a week.

But now, her doctor-turned-stepfather has a brand-new treatment that he thinks will change everything. And it does. As soon as the new blood starts pumping into Shay’s veins, she has visions of a different life…Gabriel’s life. She sees an orphanage, loss, fangs, blood, and lust that she can’t explain.

Is Gabriel real? And if he is, could he really be what she thinks he is?

First Reaction:
I got this book because I won a copy of the second book in a contest and had not yet read this one. If I had found this book on the shelf of a bookstore or library and read the back I would have mostly likely have picked it up. I find the teaser of this story very interesting, and I am glad that I got an ARC of the next book because I would never have read this one.

Shay: Shay has been sick her entire life with an unheard of blood disorder. She can barley make it though 3 days of school and spent a good portion of her life roaming the country with her mom looking for a better doctor. Now her mom is remarried to a doctor who is treating Shay and he tries a new kind of treatment, one that seems to make her better, even if it’s only temporary. But while she gets the treatment she gets visions, of Gabriel, and she can’t get him off her mind.

Gabriel: Gabriel is a vampire.
(I’m not adding more to his description to avoid adding spoilers.)

This book is very original and fairly well written. The only problem I had with it was the beginning seemed…..hyper, rushed, and you didn’t really get a feeling of what a normal day was for Shay, it seemed like the author jumped into the main story very fast, and there was little time to comprehend what the background was.

Review for second book in the series coming in the next two weeks.

In My Mailbox (7)

In my mailbox is hosted by Kristi at the story siren.

This has been so far my most busy week for books that actually came in the mail instead of the library or the store.

Side note before I begin: Yesterday was exciting for me because I hit 30 followers! Thank you guys so much, I only have 20 more to go until I have my 50 follower giveaway, oh and tomorrow is my 2 month blog-a-vercey as well as my first time going to a book signing (pictures soon!)

On Monday I got a book that I have been waiting for for a long time. It’s Wildcat Fireflies by Amber Kizer I was actually expecting an ARC copy so I thought it would come sooner than it did, but when I opened it I was surprised to find it was a finished copy and it was hardcover! So that was a nice surprise.
I am a big Meridian fan so I was very happy when I found out I had won a copy from Random House’s Random Buzzer’s. Review is Posted.

And from Lili at Chica Reader I received two RAK on Wednesday. She sent me a copy of Hush, Hush and and ARC of Clockwork Angel. Thank you so much Lili!

Friday I got two books that I had won in a contest on Bibliopunkk’s Blog. I won an ARC of The Dragon Tooth by N.D. Wilson, which is middle grade, which I don’t normally read, but I may have my sister review for us on my blog if I don’t read it. And I also won an ARC of Sacrifice by Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz on Bibliopunkks blog. I have not read the first book in this series, but I’m getting the book from the library and intend to read and review both. Thank you bibliopunkk!
